Below is a demonstration of President Obama's effective communication skills because despite Senator McCain interruption, he remained calm and still was able to get his point across on the issue.
- What behaviors does this person exhibit that make him or her effective?
eye contact, clear speaking voice, calm demeanor (no matter the issue) and his willingness to
negotiate and allow other to make their point before addressing the issue.
- Would you want to model some of your own communication behaviors after this person? Why or why not?
communication is the key ingredient to goal accomplishment. We need the necessary skills to
effectively reach parents and others in order to get many unheard points across. I believe if we
have effective communication skills then we can truly touch others and make them advocate for
children and families as well.

Tashunda,
ReplyDeleteI just took a customer service class, which referenced Bill Clinton as one of the all time most effective communicators. It was also said that Obama has many of the same traits. I always felt as if Clinton was a used car salesman tho.

I have not watched many of the political debates but I do see President Obama as a great speaker and his ability to maintain his composure while under attack is amazing. As early childhood educators we find ourselves defending our practices, the actions of co workers, or program etc. It would be helpful if I watched how the politicians communicate more often.

Hi Tashunda,
ReplyDeleteI actually decided on President Obama also. I think that he is by far one of the best communicators in regards to politics. The way he captures such large crowds and keep them engaged in his politics is truly an example of effective communication.
Excellent point about a good communicator allowing others to make their point before addressing the issue. Communication is so much more effective when both parties feel truly heard and understood.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback on this blog! I really enjoyed reading all comments. Thanks again.
